In the construction industry that grows with urban transformation in Istanbul, approximately 5 million tons of excavation waste is generated monthly. In order to prevent uncontrolled disposal of these wastes in Istanbul and therefore to prevent environmental and visual pollution, the necessary project and license processes are conducted within the framework of laws and regulations, and the mining areas that have lost their qualities are rehabilitated after being used for this purpose. 50 million tons/year of excavation soil is stored in excavation storage areas. After these areas are filled with excavation soil in accordance with the natural topography, they are restored to natural life with afforestation works. Apart from these activities, project-based studies for backfill, recreation, and agricultural areas under the supervision of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality are carried out within the framework of laws and regulations.
